The Federal Government has decided to withdraw the contempt charge against the leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) following their protest on August 2nd.
This decision comes after President Bola Tinubu met with Labour leaders, leading to the suspension of the nationwide protest.
The government has stated that it will not proceed with the contempt proceedings, which would have required further legal action.
The letter announcing the withdrawal of the charge was signed by the Solicitor-General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, Mrs B.E. Jeddy-Agba.
The NLC had previously threatened an indefinite nationwide strike if the contempt summons was not withdrawn.
The Ministry of Justice’s letter acknowledges the suspension of the protests and addresses the concerns raised by the NLC in their communiqué.
