The race for the leadership positions in the 9th National Assembly has taken a new turn as President Bola Tinubu has reportedly withdrawn his support for Senator Godswill Akpabio and Mr Tajudeen Abass as Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives respectively.
According to sources, the President has reverted to his original choice of Sani Jaji, a member of the G-6 group, which includes Jaji, Mohammed Monguno, Abdulrazak Namdas, Ahmed Wase, Babangida Ibrahim and Muktar Betara.
The President is said to have instructed his aides to secretly find out the strengths and weaknesses of each of the aspirants, including the G-6 and the Yari group.
Meanwhile, a dark horse candidate may be unveiled on Thursday, and the current Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Idris Wase, and Tajudeen Abass, may be given ministerial slots to represent their states.
The aspiration of Senator Godswill Akpabio to be Senate President appears threatened, following concerns that some senators-elect may have withdrawn their support for him.
