D’Tigress players each received $100,000 and new apartments from President Bola Tinubu in recognition of their recent AfroBasket win — www.naijnaira.com reports.

The event held at the Presidential Villa had Vice President Kashim Shettima standing in for the President, handing out the rewards on Tinubu’s behalf. The players were also awarded National Honours for their performance. According to Daily Trust, the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, and Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila joined in celebrating the basketball champions along with Head Coach Rena Wakama and her coaching team.

The Nigerian women’s basketball team defeated Mali 78–64 at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan to clinch their seventh AfroBasket title and fifth in a row. The team’s consistent dominance in Africa was on full display.

Their arrival at the State House happened just before 5pm, where they were received with applause and led into the Banquet Hall.

“The entire country is proud of what you’ve accomplished,” Shettima said while presenting the gifts.

This comes just one week after a similar ceremony honored the Super Falcons, who secured a tenth WAFCON title in Morocco. Each footballer also received $100,000, fueling online conversations and comparisons.
