The pioneer Commander of the Ogun State Security Network Agency, Amotekun, CP David Ajibola Akinremi (retd), has passed away after battling an undisclosed illness.
Akinremi was appointed by Governor Dapo Abiodun in 2021 to lead the newly established Amotekun Corps, which worked alongside other security agents to combat crime in the state.
The Western Nigeria Security Network, also known as Operation Amotekun, was founded in 2020 as the first regional security outfit initiated by a geopolitical zone in Nigeria.
Despite its efforts, former Kaduna state governor Nasir El-Rufai has stated that local security outfits like Amotekun cannot tackle well-armed bandits and can only provide local intelligence.
Akinremi’s death is a great loss to the Amotekun Corps and the state of Ogun.
