The All Progressives Congress (APC) made a swift move on Friday as its National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, led members of the party’s National Working Committee to visit former President Muhammadu Buhari at his Kaduna residence.
According to Channels Television, this visit came just hours after former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and a delegation from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) paid a similar visit to the former leader.
Ganduje’s delegation included several high-ranking party figures. While the APC has not disclosed the reason for their visit, many observers believe it may be linked to recent reports of internal party cracks and defections.
Meanwhile, the earlier PDP visit included prominent names such as former Kaduna Governor Nasir el-Rufai, former Sokoto Governor Aminu Tambuwal, and ex-Imo Governor Achike Udenwa. Others present were Gabriel Suswam, Jibrilla Bindow, Abubakar Malami, and Isa Pantami.
Speaking to reporters after the PDP meeting, el-Rufai emphasized that their gathering was not about politics. He added, “It was a visit of unity and brotherhood. Our adversaries can sleep well.”
Atiku also addressed speculation around his visit. In a post shared on his official X handle, he explained that he had been fulfilling traditional duties during Sallah in Adamawa and used the opportunity to greet the former president.
The APC has been dealing with defections recently, with some members reportedly moving to the Social Democratic Party. While both visits were described as personal and cordial, their timing has stirred conversations across party lines.
