Apple has reportedly abandoned plans to introduce solid state volume and mute buttons on the iPhone 15 Pro models due to technical challenges.

The change would have replaced the traditional volume-up and volume-down buttons with a haptic option, but according to analyst Ming Chi-Kuo, unresolved technical issues have led to the decision to revert to the physical button design.

This change is unfavourable for Cirrus Logic, the exclusive controller IC supplier, and AAC Technologies, both of which were expected to benefit from the new design.

While the change is unlikely to affect users’ purchase decisions, it was seen as a potential unique feature for the iPhone 15 Pro models.

However, it is still possible that Apple may decide to go ahead with the feature, as Kuo has previously flip-flopped on reports.
