Arsenal defeated Sporting Lisbon 5-1 in the Champions League at the Estadio Jose Alvalade, marking just the third time they’ve scored five goals in an away match in the competition.

Arsenal began the game with remarkable confidence, slicing through Sporting’s defense at will.

Martinelli opened the scoring with a tap-in, followed by Havertz’s close-range goal and a header from Gabriel Magalhaes off a corner.

This gave Arsenal a comfortable 3-0 lead at halftime.

Sporting, who had been on a nine-game winning streak, came out stronger after the break, with Inacio’s header bringing them back into the game.

However, Ousmane Diomande’s rash challenge on Martin Ødegaard in the penalty box led to a penalty, which Saka converted to restore Arsenal’s three-goal advantage.

Trossard sealed the win with a final strike, capping off a performance where Arsenal could have scored even more.

The result lifted Arsenal above Sporting in the 36-team UCL standings, while Sporting remained in eighth place, clinging to the final automatic knockout spot.
