Arsenal’s title hopes suffered a blow as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Mikel Arteta‘s side had been winless in their last three league matches, but seemed on course for a vital victory when Gabriel Martinelli put them ahead in the 60th minute with a smart near-post finish.
However, Chelsea responded with a stunning equalizer from Pedro Neto, who unleashed a powerful 25-yard strike to level the score and propel Chelsea into third place.
Chelsea had made an uncertain start, with Cole Palmer returning from injury and testing Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya early on. Neto was a constant threat, providing several dangerous crosses, but it was Martinelli’s goal that broke the deadlock.
Arsenal appeared to take control after the goal, with Jurrien Timber coming close to doubling their lead.
But it was Neto who stole the spotlight, following a smart layoff from Enzo Fernandez.
With little warning, Neto smashed the ball into the bottom corner from distance, leaving Raya with no chance.
The match also saw a disallowed goal from Kai Havertz, ruled offside after scoring a quick free-kick.
The draw leaves Arsenal’s title challenge hanging by a thread, while Chelsea’s momentum continues to build under Enzo Maresca.
