Gunmen suspected to be political thugs have shot the Director for Youths Mobilization of the Atiku Abubakar/Ifeanyi Okowa Presidential Campaign team in Rivers State, Rhino Owhorkire.
Owhorkire is presently lying critically ill in pain in an undisclosed hospital in Port Harcourt.
He was reportedly shot on Wednesday night in Aluu community, Ikwerre Local Government Area of the State when he was driving home.
Narrating the incident on Thursday morning, a source said the assailants shot at Owhorkire vehicle’s tires before shooting in his direction through the windscreen.
“As I speak with you, he is in serious pain. His mouth is shattered. But he is receiving treatment in the hospital,” the source said.
“The young mobilizer for the Rivers Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) is in agony and is being treated at an unidentified hospital right now.
“He is in excruciating pain while I chat with you. His speech is disorganized. However, the source stated that he was being treated in the hospital.
“I am perishing. They just shot me. He claimed in the six-second tape, “I’m dying; they shot me.”
Owhorkire, a former Student Union President of the University of Port Harcourt hails from Omuoko Aluu in Ikwerre Local Government Area.
A few weeks ago there was an online video showing where he was kidnapped and forced to denounce his support for Atiku Abubakar.
The Rivers State Police Command has not reacted to the incident as of the time of filing this story.
