Chelsea Set to Reduce Salaries of 3 Players over Champions League qualification

Chelsea superstars Raheem Sterling, Mason Mount and Reece James may be set to take a big pay cut if the Blues fail to finish in the Premier League’s top four this season.

Graham Potter was brought in as manager to attempt to help Chelsea return to form but results have been inconsistent so far.

The Blues spent big in the January transfer window with Mykhaylo Mudryk, Enzo Fernandez and Nuno Madueke coming through the door but could these new arrivals propel them up the table soon enough?

Otherwise, according to David Ornstein from The Athletic, those who signed new contracts such as James, Mount and Sterling are set for a huge slash in their wages due to clauses within their deals.

A win against bottom-half side Fulham on Friday night would be a great place for Potter’s men to start getting their revival going, potentially including some cameo appearances from Benjamin Chilwell – fitness permitting – and Fernandez alongside Kovacic or Barkley in midfield.

Either way, if Chelsea doesn’t reach the Champions League places come May we could well see a considerable financial hit for two of their star players just when they need it most.
