There are numerous types of bank with commercial as the most popular ones. Nigeria used to have more commercial banks but some of them had to merge or risk been shutdown according to a directive given in 2006 by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
This reduced the number of commercial banks operating in Nigeria to 21. Ten (10) of them have international authorization, another nine (9) were granted national authorization and the remaining 2 have regional authorization.

UBA: Was established in 1949 with head office at 57 Marina and Kennedy Uzoka as managing director.
Zenith Bank: Founded in 1990 and is located at Plot 84, Ajose Adeogun Street, Victoria Island with Mr. Peter Amangbo as the managing director.
Ecobank: Its headquarter is at 21, Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island and current managing director as Ade Adeyemi.
Stanbic Ibtc Bank: Head office is at IBTC Place, Walter Carrington Crescent, Victoria Island and managing director is Yinka Sanni.
