Court stops forceful removal of INEC chairman Yakubu

A ruling by FCT High Court Justice M.A Hassan, on Wednesday, January 4, stopped an application which sought the removal of INEC chairman Prof Mahmood Yakubu from office over false asset declaration allegations.

The prosecution had requested that an order be made forcing the INEC chairman to step down and prohibiting him from holding public office for a decade.

However, the judge rejected their request and noted that Prof Yakubu provided legal evidence for all of his assets, rendering them valid.

Furthermore, he barred DSS, Police Force and CCB from arresting the INEC Chairman.
