Cristiano Ronaldo expressed his belief that it was “unfair” that Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior missed out on this year’s Ballon d’Or award.

Ronaldo made the comments on Friday at the Global Soccer Awards ceremony, after Manchester City midfielder Rodri took home the prize in October, with Vinicius finishing in second place.

Rodri won the Ballon d’Or after helping Manchester City secure a fourth consecutive Premier League title and leading Spain to victory in Euro 2024.

Meanwhile, Vinicius played a pivotal role in Real Madrid’s record-extending 15th Champions League win.

Despite these impressive achievements, the ceremony was marred by controversy when Vinicius and Madrid chose to boycott the event.

Ronaldo, speaking at the event, stated, “In my opinion, he deserved to win the Golden Ball. It was unfair, I say it here in front of everybody.”

“They gave it to Rodri, he deserved it too but I think they should have given it to Vinicius because he won a Champions League,” He added.

The Ballon d’Or winner is selected by a panel of 100 specialist journalists from around the world, which further added to the debate over this year’s decision.
