The Nigeria Labour Union (NLC) has not yet made a clear statement regarding the proposed nationwide industrial action, even after the two-day deadline given to the Federal Government has passed.
The NLC had initially given a 21-day ultimatum regarding delayed palliative distribution, with the possibility of an indefinite strike if their demands were not met.
However, since the expiration of the deadline, the NLC has not provided a definite course of action.
A spokesperson for the NLC stated that reports of an indefinite industrial action were false and that no official statement had been released regarding a strike.
The Federal Government, on the other hand, expressed confidence in the outcome of their meeting with the union and emphasized that there was no reason for the strike to proceed.
Vice President Kashim Shettima assured that the government was engaging with the NLC in a friendly manner and that they were committed to the welfare and prosperity of workers.
It is unclear at this time whether the strike will be held or if further negotiations will take place between the NLC and the Federal Government.
