Following a court order, the detained and suspended Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele, is set to be released.
The High Court in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, declared the arrest and detention of Emefiele by the Department of State Services as void.
The court held that the actions were in violation of a previous judgment and orders by Justice M. A. Hassan.
Emefiele’s counsel had argued that the arrest and detention were illegal and null due to the existing judgment from another court.
The court also set aside any warrant of arrest obtained by the DSS and granted an injunction restraining them from interfering with Emefiele’s personal liberty and freedom of movement.
The court ordered the immediate release of Emefiele from any arrest or detention.
