Dr. Ibrahim Bello, the Emir of Gusau, passed away in Abuja at 71 following a long illness, leaving a major void in Zamfara’s traditional leadership. www.naijnaira.com reports.
He ruled the Gusau Emirate for over ten years, taking the throne on March 16, 2015, after the passing of his father. Before becoming Emir, Dr. Bello had an impressive civil service career, serving as a Permanent Secretary in both the old Sokoto State and later Zamfara, as mentioned by Obinna Ezugwu.
Governor Dauda Lawal’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Idis, officially confirmed the monarch’s death and relayed the governor’s condolences to the entire state.
Reacting to the loss, Governor Lawal called the Emir’s death “both personal and collective,” acknowledging the late ruler as a steady guide and influential voice in the state’s development.
“I received with deep sadness the news of the passing of our father, His Royal Highness, Dr. Ibrahim Bello,” the governor stated.
He extended his sympathy to the Emir’s family, the Gusau Emirate, and all Zamfara citizens, emphasizing the significant void left by the royal father’s death.
“I have lost a confidant and father whose wisdom guided me and other leaders,” Lawal added, offering prayers for the late Emir’s soul.
