A former employee of Samsung Electronics has been indicted by South Korea for allegedly leaking confidential information to China.

The ex-employee, who had previously worked as a Vice President for SK Hynix, is accused of stealing Samsung’s semiconductor chip-related technology and attempting to build a chip factory in Xian, China.

The defendant worked for 28 years for South Korean semiconductor chip firms and was charged along with six other people for their involvement in industry espionage.

The attempted chip factory failed due to funding-related issues, but Samsung reportedly faced losses of at least KRW 30 billion (around $23 million) due to the information leak.

Both Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix declined to comment on the matter. The date of the trial has not yet been revealed.
