Brentford striker Ivan Toney has been banned from football for eight months and fined £50,000 after being diagnosed as a gambling addict and betting on his own team to lose 13 times.
The Football Association charged Toney with 262 breaches of its betting rules between February 2017 and January 2021, but withdrew 30 of the charges.
Toney admitted to the remaining 232 charges, including betting on both Newcastle and Wigan to lose games while he was on loan at the latter from the former in the 2017-18 season.
The FA report revealed that Toney placed 13 bets on his own team to lose in seven different matches, but did not play in any of those games.
Toney also admitted to lying to the FA about betting on football and providing inside information to a friend on when he was starting a game.
The suspension was reduced from 15 months to eight months because Toney pleaded guilty and was diagnosed with a gambling addiction.
