Following the tragic elevator accident at the General Hospital in Odan, Lagos Island, the Lagos State Government has taken action based on the findings of the investigation panel.

The facility managers responsible for the elevator have been sacked and blacklisted, and the General Manager of the Lagos State Infrastructure and Asset Management Agency has been suspended.

Contrary to reports, it has been clarified that the crashed elevator was installed brand new in 2021 and not experiencing faults since 2020.

Elevator experts from the Lagos Safety Commission will be conducting further mechanical examination to determine why the safety features failed.

The installation and maintenance contractors have been handed over to the police for investigation and potential prosecution if found negligent.

Additionally, an audit of all elevators in public offices will be carried out by the Lagos Safety Commission.
