Former Ekiti State Governor, John Fayemi, has extended a heartfelt apology to Nigerians for the shortcomings of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the years.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, Fayemi admitted that the ruling party had failed to deliver on all its promises.
While acknowledging that the APC had not been entirely incompetent, he pointed to structural hurdles that hindered progress.
“Oh, clearly, we owe Nigerians an apology,” Fayemi said. “We have not been able to fulfill all the promises we made. It’s not just about capacity, but there were fundamental obstacles that made governance more complex than anticipated. Still, we must admit—we haven’t done enough to make life better for the people, and for that, I sincerely apologize.”
The APC came to power in 2015 when then-candidate Muhammadu Buhari defeated incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Nearly a decade later, many Nigerians argue that life has only grown tougher under the APC-led government.
In May 2023, Buhari handed over to Bola Tinubu, a former Lagos State governor and APC stalwart.
Tinubu’s decision to scrap the fuel subsidy on his inauguration day sent shockwaves through the economy, exacerbating financial struggles and plunging millions into deeper poverty.
