In his speech at the fifth annual lecture organised by Freedom Online, with the theme: “2023-2027: Nigerians, Elected Leaders and Expectations” in Lagos, former military governor of old Ondo State, George, expressed concern about the potential consequences of the tribunal’s verdict in the ongoing case involving President Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as respondents, and the petitioners, the presidential candidates of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.
George stated that if the court favored either party, it could lead to trouble due to the way elected leaders in Nigeria often react to such situations.
He called for forgiveness for their transgressions and for political leaders to prioritize the well-being of the Nigerian people.
Furthermore, George criticized the political class for marginalizing and oppressing the less privileged in society.
He highlighted the economic inequalities, injustice, and unfairness in the distribution of resources and financial wealth.
George cited examples such as senators receiving N23 million per month, retired federal permanent secretaries receiving N1 million per month, and retired generals receiving N250,000 as pension per month.
He described this as despicable and a systemic failure.
