The Chief of Staff to the President of Nigeria, Femi Gbajabiamila, has announced that the implementation of the student loan scheme is expected to be launched within the next three weeks.
Speaking during a meeting with the National Association of Nigerian Students, Gbajabiamila expressed the administration’s commitment to ensuring the successful implementation of the scheme.
The student loan scheme aims to provide access to quality education for all Nigerian students, regardless of their socioeconomic background.
Gbajabiamila urged Nigerian students to support the initiative and emphasized the President’s determination to see it through.
He highlighted the importance of not overlooking deserving, financially challenged students in accessing the loan.
The Chief of Staff reassured the students that the government is taking steps to address concerns raised by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to prevent any imminent industrial action.
President Tinubu has issued directives aimed at ending strikes by academic unions in universities and higher institutions. Gbajabiamila called on Nigerian students to voice their support for the student loan scheme and work towards its success.
He emphasized that the policy is well-received and aims to ensure that no student is deprived of education due to their birth circumstances, which is considered unconstitutional.
The launch of the student loan scheme is expected to take place in the next two to three weeks, pending finalization of necessary policies.
Gbajabiamila urged students to stand in support of the initiative and to speak out against any opposition to ensure its successful implementation.
