Fiorentina midfielder Edoardo Bove is conscious and alert in the hospital after collapsing during Sunday’s Serie A match against Inter Milan, which was subsequently called off.
Bove was rushed to Careggi Hospital in Florence’s intensive care unit following the incident, which occurred in the 16th minute of the match when it was still goalless.
Fiorentina confirmed on Monday that Bove was “awakened and extubated” and is now “awake, alert, and oriented.”
He has been able to speak with his family, teammates, coach, and club management, all of whom quickly rushed to his side upon hearing the positive news.
Further tests will be conducted in the coming days to determine the cause of the sudden collapse.
Bove’s fall brought back painful memories of the tragic death of Fiorentina’s former captain Davide Astori, who passed away unexpectedly in 2018 at the age of 31.
The sight of players and officials from both teams visibly shaken by the event left fans at the Stadio Artemio Franchi in suspense, awaiting good news.
Fortunately, initial tests carried out on Sunday evening ruled out significant damage to Bove’s central nervous and cardio-respiratory systems.
Serie A has announced that a meeting will be held to determine when the match will be resumed. Italian media reports indicate it could be rescheduled for February.
