Billy Kenny, once known as ‘the Goodison Gazza’, has opened up about how his addiction to drugs and alcohol destroyed his promising football career at just 21 years old.
Despite playing 17 times for Everton as a teenager, a string of injuries left Kenny on the treatment table for months, leading him to fall into a cocaine and alcohol-fueled black hole.
Everton released him for ‘gross misbehaviour’, and he spent a miserable four-game spell at Oldham before retiring from football.
Kenny remained addicted to drugs for the next 25 years until his mother’s death gave him the strength to turn his life around.
He now regrets the pain he inflicted on his parents and is writing his life story to offer a cautionary tale to other young talents at risk of wasting their potential.
Despite his regrets, Kenny is proud of his time playing for Everton and is grateful for the opportunity to have a second crack at life.
