Former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has responded to reports that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is planning to arrest him.

In a statement released by his media aide, Terver Akase, on May 29, Ortom denied the report and stated that he has “nothing to hide”.

Akase also emphasized that Ortom’s administration was transparent and that the former governor is willing to honor any invitation from the EFCC or any other anti-graft agency.

The report, which was published by some online news media, was deemed unfounded and far from the truth.

Ortom was a prominent governor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and advocated for a power shift to the south in the opposition party.

He endorsed the candidacy of Peter Obi of the Labour Party against his party’s candidate, Atiku Abubakar, during the 2023 election.

However, Ortom lost his senatorial bid and the PDP subsequently lost the governorship election to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
