Former Napoli forward, Stefan Schwoch, has praised Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen as a phenomenal player but expressed his concerns about Osimhen’s penalty-taking abilities.
Speaking on Italian TV program, Il bello del calcio, Schwoch highlighted Osimhen’s recent penalty miss during Napoli’s 2-1 win over Juventus.
In the match, Osimhen had the chance to secure victory for Napoli after winning a penalty, but his shot was saved by Wojciech Szczęsny.
However, Giacomo Raspadori was able to capitalize on the rebound and secure the win for Napoli.
This penalty miss was Osimhen’s third out of seven attempts, indicating that he has struggled with converting penalties.
Schwoch believes that three errors out of seven attempts from the spot are too many.
He acknowledges that Osimhen is a phenomenal player but suggests that penalties may not be his strong suit.
Schwoch’s comments are supported by Osimhen’s performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where he scored just one goal and did not take any penalties despite winning two for Nigeria.
Despite the criticism, Osimhen has been in excellent form for Napoli since returning from the AFCON, scoring five goals in four games, including a hat-trick against Sassuolo.
In the current season, he has scored 11 goals and provided three assists in 16 league games.
