France and China have agreed to strengthen their economic ties, according to a statement released by the French foreign ministry.
The agreement was reached during a meeting between French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna and her Chinese counterpart Qin Gang.
The meeting followed French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to China in April and came after a diplomatic rift caused by comments made by China’s Paris ambassador about Ukraine.
Colonna reminded Qin of China’s important role in convincing Russia to comply with the U.N. Charter regarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
Qin stated that the two countries should explore new areas of cooperation and build a more resilient transnational supply chain.
He also expressed China’s commitment to promoting high-quality development and a high-level opening up, and its willingness to work with France and other countries to address global challenges, including the Ukraine crisis.
