The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has dismissed the suspension of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, stating that there were no grounds for the suspension. On Tuesday, April 16, a faction of the party announced the suspension, citing alleged anti-party activities.
However, the acting national chairman of the NNPP, Ahmed Ajuji, called those who announced the suspension attention-seekers. The faction had reached this decision after the governor failed to appear before a disciplinary committee to address the alleged anti-party activities.
Ogini Olaposi, the faction’s national secretary, announced the suspension at a press conference in Abuja on April 16.
In response to the suspension, Ahmed Ajuji, the acting national chairman of the NNPP, stated that Governor Yusuf remained a bona fide member of the party.
He referred to those who announced the suspension as mere political jesters, attention seekers, and mercenaries, dismissing their threat as irrelevant.
Ajuji also mentioned that these individuals had attempted to undermine the governor’s position in the tribunal, court of appeal, and supreme court by claiming that he was not duly nominated by the party.
However, the Supreme Court justices ruled in favor of the governor, affirming his membership in the NNPP.
The party’s national working committee has also reaffirmed the governor’s status as a member of the NNPP.
