Hamas has agreed to release 10 hostages as part of ongoing ceasefire negotiations with Israel, showing a shift in talks that had previously stalled, NaijNaira can report.

The update came via AFP, quoting Hamas as saying the “core points remain under negotiations,” specifically humanitarian aid access, Israeli troop withdrawal, and a permanent ceasefire agreement.

Despite what it described as the “difficulty of negotiations,” Hamas claims it is working to move past key sticking points in the process.

Since October 2023, over 57,000 people in Gaza have died in Israeli air and ground offensives following Hamas’ attack that left 1,200 dead in southern Israel.

Israel has continued to block humanitarian supplies into Gaza, with UN officials warning that the territory faces an imminent famine.

Israeli military chief Eyal Zamir claimed progress, saying, “We have caused great damage to the governance and military capabilities of Hamas.”

He added, “Thanks to the operational power that we have demonstrated, the conditions have been created to advance a deal to release the hostages.”

U.S. President Donald Trump also weighed in on July 2, stating that Israel had agreed to terms necessary for a 60-day ceasefire, which Washington hopes can end the war.

The U.S. continues to act as a mediator and security guarantor in these negotiations.
