Houston rapper Big Pokey, a member of the Screwed Up Click hip-hop collective, passed away at the age of 45 after collapsing during a show in Beaumont, Texas.
The cause of his death has not yet been confirmed, and autopsy results are pending.
Powell’s death was announced on his Instagram profile, and his representative asked for privacy for his family during this difficult time.
Powell’s debut record, “The Hardest Pit in the Litter,” was released in 1999, and he went on to release several other albums, including “D-Game” and “Da Sky’s Da Limit.”
The Screwed Up Click, led by DJ Screw in the Nineties, was instrumental in the creation of the “chopped-and-screwed” style of hip-hop.
