The P40 lite is the latest Huawei midrange smartphone and here is its specs and price in Nigeria.
It is not entirely a new smartphone though but rather a rebranded Nova 6 SE which was released in China last year in December and a successor of the P30 Lite from last year.
Huawei has gotten a lot of partnership restrictions from the US Government but they are still strong and capable.
Even google restricted them from using their services, so some Huawei smartphones released recently don’t come with Google apps or services.
There is a way you can force install them if you know your way around. In this post, we are going to be talking about the smartphone and also be comparing it with the older P30 Lite to see if Huawei gave an upgrade or not.

As we talked about earlier, this is a rebranded Nova 6 SE and you can see that it has the same design as the Huawei Nova 6 SE.
The design is beautiful and attractive, the camera module is square in shape and it houses quad cameras.
There is a single led flash underneath the camera module which helps in low light shots. It has a slightly curved edges which is nice for a firm grip.
The back of the smartphone is made from plastic and it also has a plastic frame.
It weighs 183grams which is not too heavy with a dimension of 159.2 x 76.3 x 8.7 mm.
The device also makes use of a hybrid SIM slot which is one SIM card and one SD card or a dual SIM without an SD card.
If you wish to get the smartphone, you have the ability to choose between four colours which are Black, Emerald Green, Light Pink and Blue.
In comparison with the older P30 Lite, what has changed? Well, the older P30 Lite comes with a glass back and plastic frame.
It is not heavy as the P40 Lite at 159grams compared to the P40 Lite which weighs 183grams.
Again, the P30 Lite has a smaller dimension of 152.9 x 72.7 x 7.4 mm unlike the P40 Lite which has a bigger dimensions of 159.2 x 76.3 x 8.7 mm.
Both of them still uses a Hybrid SIM slot. Numbers aside, they differ in design which is a good thing.
The older P30 Lite has a vertical camera module holding three sensors while this newer P40 Lite uses a square camera module.
Coming to the front side, there is a circular punch hole cut-out at the upper left corner of the P40 Lite display which is a home for the selfie camera.
It has a big chin and smaller bezels which made it to achieve a screen to body ratio of 83.5%.
The display is an LTPS IPS LCD screen which measures 6.4inches in diagonal.
The display produces a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 by 2310 pixels alongside a 398ppi density for amazing colour reproduction.
Compared to the older P30 Lite, it has a 6.15inches Full HD+ LTPS IPS LCD screen which produces 1080 by 2312 pixels.
Physically, it comes with a dot notch cut-out for the selfie camera overhead the display unlike the P40 Lite which comes with a punch hole cut-out for it’s selfie camera.
The older P30 Lite has a more ppi density of 415 compared to the P40 Lite which has 398 PPI density.
We don’t know why Huawei left such a huge chin on the P40 Lite, the P30 Lite comes with a smaller chin reaching a screen to body ratio of 84.2% unlike the P40 Lite which has a screen to body ratio of 83.5%.
Hardware and Software
Under the hood, P40 Lite is powered by a Hisilicon Kirin 810 chipset which uses an Octa core processor clocked at 2.27GHz for the first two cores and 1.88GHz for the last six cores.
It runs on Android 10 with EMUI version 10 on top.
For graphics or gaming, there is a Mali-G52 MP6 GPU taking responsibility of it. The smartphone uses a 128-giga byte of UFS 2.1 storage and 6-giga byte of RAM.
If you are not contented with the storage, you can extend it further with a micro SD card up to 256-giga byte.
Huawei really upgraded in the hardware and software department, here is what i mean.
The older P30 Lite comes with a Hisilicon Kirin 710 chipset which uses an Octa core processor clocked at 2.2GHz for the first four cores and 1.7GHz for the last four cores.
Also, the P30 Lite runs on an Android 9 Pie, though you can upgrade it to Android 10 since Huawei has dished out the update.
Aside that, it has a less powerful GPU of Mali-G51 MP4 for graphics or gaming compared to the newer P40 Lite which has a bigger Mali-G52 MP6 GPU for graphics or gaming.
Huawei only produced the P40 Lite in one storage configuration unlike in the P30 Lite where they gave users lots of storage configurations to choose from.
The P30 Lite is available in three storage configurations which are 4-giga byte of RAM and 128-giga byte of ROM, 6-giga byte of RAM and 128-giga byte of ROM or an 8-giga byte of RAM and 128-giga byte of ROM.
In terms of photography, the P40 Lite arrives with a quad rear cameras which includes a 48-mega pixels main camera, 8-mega pixels ultra wide camera, 2-mega pixels macro camera and a 2-mega pixels depth sensor.
On the front, it has a 16-mega pixels selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture.
Its rear camera can shoot videos in 1080p at 30fps while the front camera can as well shoot videos in 1080p at 30fps.
The older P30 Lite comes with a triple rear cameras which includes a 48-mega pixels main camera, 8-mega pixels ultra wide camera and a 2-mega pixels depth shooter.
On the front, it has a 24-mega pixels selfie camera.
Now you can see that Huawei didn’t upgrade in the camera department.
The P40 Lite is still retaining 48MP main camera, 8MP ultra wide and even a 2MP depth sensor.
On the front, the older P30 Lite surpassed it with a 24MP selfie camera unlike the 16MP selfie camera on the P40 Lite.
Battery and Connectivity
In terms of battery, the P40 Lite draws energy from a 4,200mAh battery which supports 40W fast charging. Huawei said that it can take this device from 0 to 70% in 30mins.
This is also the area where Huawei did an upgrade over the P30 Lite.
The Huawei P30 Lite comes with a 3340mAh battery which supports 18W fast charging.
You can see that Huawei added extra 860mAh and 22W fast charging to the P40 Lite, this is good.
For security, the P40 Lite uses a side mounted fingerprint scanner while the older P30 Lite uses a rear mounted fingerprint reader.
I will always prefer a side mounted fingerprint over the rear placement fingerprint scanner because it is more easy to reach.
So in conclusion, the P40 Lite is a nice smartphone to have and it also a rebranded Nova 6 SE in China.
What that means is that the P40 Lite is available in China as the Nova 6 SE while it is available Globally as the P40 Lite.
With this little comparison we did with the older huawei P30 Lite, you can see that P40 Lite offers a good upgrade.
