Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IE) has announced that it will temporarily suspend new orders for prepaid meters until it has cleared the backlog of requests.
This decision comes after the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) approved an increase in the prices of prepaid electricity meters.
The new prices, which exclude value-added tax (VAT), are N81,975.16k for a single-phase meter and N143,836.10k for a three-phase meter.
Morenikeji Amosun, IE’s head of prepaid revenue management and metering, explained that the company had been unable to fulfill customers’ requests for prepaid meters due to adjustments in foreign exchange rates.
However, the company plans to prioritize existing requests before accepting new ones.
Amosun assured customers that efforts are being made to ensure those who have already paid for meters receive them soon and urged patience during the process.
