Donald Trump claimed he wasn’t aware the U.S. still brings in Russian uranium, fertilizers, and chemicals, even as he slammed India for its oil deals with Moscow — www.naijnaira.com reports.
The comments came after India fired back at what it called a “hypocritical” stance from Washington. In response to Trump’s criticism, India’s foreign ministry didn’t hold back, calling the remarks “unjustified and unreasonable.” According to India, its energy choices aren’t political — they’re practical.
In a briefing, Trump said, “I don’t know anything about it. We will have to check,” when asked about ongoing U.S. imports of Russian goods. But just days earlier, he posted on Truth Social, “India is not only buying massive amounts of Russian oil, they are then… selling it on the open market for big profits.”
India countered by pointing out that it turned to Russia only after Europe bought out traditional supplies, and the U.S. supported those moves back then. “Such imports were encouraged to stabilize global energy markets,” the Indian government stated.
They also questioned why Washington still trades with Russia for non-essential goods while targeting India for doing what it calls a “national necessity.”
This sharp exchange deepens tensions between the two allies over trade, sanctions, and energy strategy.
