The long awaited infinix S5 has been launched and here is everything you need to know about it from specs to price in Naira.
We are in a dispensation where there are great competitions for market shares, and one of the market entry strategies is the price of the commodity.
The market is saturated with a large number of budget smartphones, and every company must follow this trend if it wants to retain and hold much higher market shares.
This time the Transsion Holdings Company, a Hong Kong-based manufacturer, who owned the brand product called Infinix, has decided to introduce a perfect smartphone product in their S-Series line for all their pleased customers globally, which accordingly is a budget-centric smartphone with perfect specifications. This is the first impression of the most of the user of this brand products.
Infinix Mobile launched its new S-series smartphone, which is another budget Android smartphone on October 21, 2019, named as S5 with a code name Infinix-X652.
Infinix Hot S5 is an upgrade of Infinix Hot S4, launched earlier this year, despite that its predecessor, Hot S4 is still trends in the Nigerian mobile market storerooms, making people emphasizing that it is such early to see another addition to the Hot-series.
This latest device of Infinix Mobile features similar specifications with its predecessor, Hot S4, down to its price.
The Infinix Hot S5 features HD+ display with a punch-hole notch screen type design, instead of a waterdrop-style notch that Hot S4 features. Its unique specifications include A.I.
Quad camera for better and more precise images and videos, 32-MP selfie camera for better camera experience, 2-MP super macro lens that can capture close photos up to 2.5cm at the rear, polished crystal back feather design, Dirac Sound Field Widening technology that provides a quality sound system.
Some reviewed that the phone lacks support for fast charging, and also Nightscape Mode for pictures taken under low illumination, pixel density is less, medium Processor and GPU, No C-type port. The exciting part of it is that it is not too revealing for an average user.
Infinix S5 Price in Nigeria
With all these identifications, S5 Infinix is available at a price of just $130, which is N45,873 to Nigeria’s currency.
It has more than enough to offer at its price. The screen size, camera, and essential performance are decent. The issues with heavy gaming and multitasking are apparent.
However, a light user buyer spending this amount should not have any issues with the phone. Low in budget and packing all the goods, the phone is perfect for the price it’s going for.
Design and Display
Infinix Hot S5 (X652) is almost similar to its predecessor when it comes to design, with just a few differentiating features such as the punch hole and a taller display. It has a bar design with measurements of 164 mm x 76 mm x 7.9 mm and only weighs 178g compared with 156 mm x 75 mm x 7.7 mm of S4 variant that weighs 155g.
The screen comes with a super cinema 2.5D curved glass display with a punch-hole design while the back has a 3D Polycarbonate crystal feather glass design.
The body comes in Quetzal Cyan or Violet’s body finishing designs, which are glossy gradient. The volume and the power button are seen on the right spine, and there is a sizeable chin beneath the display
S5 from infinix is a big, yet handy smartphone, with a screen size of 6.6 inches, is encapsulated with curved scratch-resistance Gorilla Glass 6 on the screen. The IPS LCD touchscreen comes with a color depth of 16M.
Hot S5, as nicked, featured a resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels, which is precisely the same resolution on the latest Infinix Hot 8 with a same screen size, but have pixel density of 266 pixels-per-inch looks incredible awkward for such caliber of phone, when compared with the predecessor, S4, which have a higher pixel density. With a 20.9 aspect ratio, all with a thickness of 8.8mm.
Other Google Play Console listing reveals that the phone gets a standard punch-hole design 3D glass pattern design on the back and 90.5% screen to body ratio, 70.2% NTSC and 480 NITS brightness, Super Cinema 2.5D curved glass display with a screen resolution of 720 x 1,600 pixels. The listing reveals that the Infinix S4 display screen is an HD+ type, with a screen density of 320 DPI.
Camera quality vis-à-vis with video resolution is one of the significant criteria users’ priorities and consider when getting a new smartphone. S5, unlike its predecessor, features A.I quad rear camera accessories and a selfie camera of 32 M.P. punch hole style. The rear view indicated that the phone comes with a Quad-LED flash, panorama, and HDR feature to improve the quality of the motion and still images captured.
The primary camera comes with the PDAF (Phase-Detect auto focus), which ensure a sharp focus of the lens. The primary camera comes with super 16 M.P., f/1.8 (wide) camera capacity.
From my review, images taken with the primary lens camera comes with some an acceptable level of sharpness and clarity, but with a saturated colors roundabout.
Another con of this camera is that it has a lower capacity of capturing blurry images in low illuminated environments, which comes with shallow detail. The second lens is of a 5 M.P. ultra-wide-angle camera, having a 114-degree field of view.
This, when compared with his predecessor – S4, seems lower, for its predecessor, comes with a 120-degree field of view. Images taken with this camera are less detailed and a bit blurry, but with better color saturation, when compared with the primary camera.
The third lens is of a 2 M.P. macro lens, which is the significant difference in camera hardware lenses with Infinix S4. The macro lens captures sharp, well-detailed, and bright photos, but of a distance up to 2.5cm. Meaning minute objects such as plants, insects, and products can be captured under these circumstances.
The final camera in the quad setup is a 2 M.P. depth sensor.
Front camera comes with a 32 M.P., f/2.0 aperture A.I. in-display selfie sensor side by side with Big Pixel technology (4-in-1 pixels). It comes in an inbuilt punch hole, placed on the far left corner of the screen.
The selfie camera app features Al 3D Face Beauty mode and takes detailed selfie shots. Images captured with the selfie camera are quality assured, noise-free, and well detailed.
Regarding the video capturing, S5 can shot at 4K @60fps to an incredibly slow 7680fps slow-motion capture at 720p. Meanwhile, one can be sure to get quality captured videos the front camera with a resolution of 1080p 30fps.
The video quality impresses under well illumination environments, and not it isn’t great in the dark. The most important update with the phone over its predecessor is the combination of the A.I. Quad camera and video resolution.
Hardware, Software & Performance
Infinix Hot S5 is listed among the entry-level memory size of 4GB RAM, which we expect to be paired with 64GB of internal storage, expandable to 256GB through a dedicated microSD slot.
It is powered by a capable Octa-core 2.0 GHz Cortex-A53 processor, which is inbuilt with the Mediatek MT6762 Helio P22 (12nm) chipset. This CPU is quite similar to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 Chipset that is used in most recent smartphones.
Infinix Mobile agrees that the PowerVR GE8320 graphics processor is capable of supporting games with powerful graphics, user interfaces, and 3D content comfortably.
The XOS 5.5 Cheetah GUI runs prudently on Android 9.0 Pie mobile operating system, and conservatively light on the battery. The graphics user interface is loaded with customized features, which users may personalize accordingly to their preferences.
There is support for the app drawer that can be accessed by swiping up from the bottom.
Afterward is the Smart Panel, a floating window that shows shortcuts to different settings and apps, where you have different gesture-based navigation controls and more.
Other personalized features are Game Mode, Bike Mode, full-screen gesture navigation, and among others.
During the review period, which the phone was subjected to, it was observed, S5 is such a great phone, considering the cost with its performance, for it practically handles all daily tasks flawlessly a phone should be subjected to.
Although the phone may be concluded as an average gaming phone, especially when tested with high graphics-demanding PUBG games, which affects some background applications, whereby switching from a task to another might be a nightmare for the users, alongside with the observation that it might heat up when used for long sessions.
Nevertheless, its performance is considerably impressive, when put side-by-side with other much great ending resources phones, as there are little differences observed, despite that Hot S5 is powered by the latest CPU Chipset.
Although, new justification of these hardware component performances of the device is considered not encouraging, considering the competitor Xiaomi Redmi 7A, iPhone 11 Pro, Google Pixel 4, Realme C2, and more, for it shall face stiff competition with them in the market.
The phone is lighted by a 4000mAh non-removable Li-Po battery with A.I. power management, which helps manage the display size of the phone, which might slightly consume more power. The battery claims to provide 30 hours Music Playback (Speakers), 111 hours of Music on Headset, 14.7 hours Video Playback, 13.4 hours Web Surfing, 11 hours Gaming, 18.8 hours 4G talk-time and 31 days’ Standby time.
Sensor, Connectivity & Security
Connectivity options include a 3-in-1 card slot (Dual Nano SIM plus a dedicated micro S.D. card slot), VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 5.0, Hotspot, GPS with A-GPS, Radio, and a MicroUSB 2.0 USB On-The-Go.
The sensor on board includes: Fingerprint(rear-mounted), accelerometer, proximity, and compass.
On the security sides, Hot S5 has various security measure to protect user’s privacies., the Fingerprint Unlocking, Number Code Unlocking, Pattern code Unlocking are traditional ways known with Infinix products, which invariably works beautiful and flawlessly, but the introduction of The face detection Unlocking Algorithm to unlock the phone is impressive.
Generally, the Infinix S5 smartphone is an average device, with a much relative pocket – friendly price.
The A.I. Quad camera with the macro lens is a plus for the phone, but the other specs are just similar to the Infinix S4. It is best recommended for individuals who require a phone for everyday use with excellent performance.
Not meant for gaming needs but is a perfect companion for binge-watching your favorite T.V. shows and movies. If you are considering a phone that can carry out everyday tasks at ease and can fulfill your entertainment needs without burning down your wallet, then this is it.
This device is targeted at individuals who like taking clear and detailed pictures. It is a good option for those going for affordability.
