Infinix Zero 5 and Tecno Phantom 8 ~ Flagships War.
I came up with infinix zero 5 vs tecno phantom 8 because it came to my attention that transsion holding fans are having difficulties choosing between their 2017 flagships.
What should we call the relationship between zero 5 and phantom 8? I had go with brothers but i think they are a bit far from that.
They have the same parent but different father and mother. Wait, is that even possible?
Okay, i think this better explain their relationship. They have the same grandfather, but different father. Yeah, their fathers are brothers. Talking of the 3 companies CEOs.
I think that makes them a cousin right? The truth is, i hate all those subjects with too much note in secondary school. English and Social studies included.
So forgive me if cousin isn’t the best term for their relationship.
Introducing you to Tecno Phantom 8 and Infinix Zero 5.
Both flagships were launched within 23 days to each other. They came with similar specs that perform different in reality.
Tecno Phantom 8 was unveiled on the 22nd October 2017 at an event in Dubai to dethrone tecno phantom 6 that was shown to the world on the 25th September 2016.
Phantom 8 is a worthy upgrade to its predecessor in most department.
Infinix Zero 5 and its Pro variant were unleashed on the 14th November 2017. 23 days after the launch of its Cousin to dethrone zero 4 and infinix zero 4 plus.
Zero 4 (Plus) were their 2016 flagships and currently among the best phones infinix mobile ever launch.
Below is the comparison between infinix zero 5 and tecno phantom 8.
Build: Design & Display.
Phantom 8 in all its glory sports a body designed out of aluminium metal.
This metallic material undergo diamond fire design crafted with up to 8 processes that left the phantom 8 with sparkling edges, stunning body and unique feel.
Zero 5 also boast of aluminium metal unibody design.
But unlike the full diamond touches seen on the phantom 8 metal body, Zero 5 saw a brush finishing on the back cover and diamond cutting edges that gave it a luxurious look.
The front view of the tecno phantom 8 host the earpiece, selfie camera, led flash, the 2.5D glass display screen & capacitive buttons. It is same for infinix zero 5 but replaced the capacitive buttons with on-screen buttons.
At the rear are dual camera, led flash and fingerprint scanner though with different positioning on both device.
On top of the phantom 8 is the 3.5mm head jack and at the bottom are the speaker grill and usb type c port. On the sides are the power buttons, volume rocker, sim & sdcard tray slot.
Zero 5 on the hand has power button, volume rocker and sim card tray slot on the right side. On the left side is the sdcard tray slot.
Nothing at the top but the bottom house the speaker grills, usb port (type c) and audio jack.
The first thing i first noticed was the obsolete 16:9 aspect ratio display view on both the phantom and zero cousin.
I mean this devices were launched when the full view display was at its trending peak and they still went with the old aspect ratio.
Phantom 8 is a 5.7″ IPS smartphone with Full HD display, 380 ppi and curved 2.5D glass.
One could have easily thought the phantom 8 would give a better display quality considering a smaller screen size and higher pixel per inch density.
To my surprise, Zero 5’s 5.98″ FHD display with 368 ppi and 2.5D glass outshine that of phantom 8 both indoor and under sunlight.
The zero 5 display does a better job at producing detailed picture, video, text and viewing angles than its phantom cousin.
Another thing is that the zero 5 has its display protected by corning gorilla glass 3. Making it stronger and scratch resistance.
The phantom 8 has the usual capacitive button below the display screen while zero 5 has replaced it with on screen buttons.
Verdict on Build.
Tecno phantom 8 may have won the design crisis but infinix won the display war.
Yes design crisis and display war. Let’s face it folks.
Most people will use a protective case on these devices which will certainly hide the beauty of the phantom 8 except for few that will use a transparent case.
The display is all that will be left. With better display and scratch resistance screen, zero 5 have the day.
I hope you now understand why i attributed crisis and war to design and display respectively.
The transsion holding cousins featured exactly the same processor, the same Android operating system with different skin (HiOS & XOS) and again the same storage except for the plus version of the zero 5 with 128GB rom.
Both device pulled outstanding performance that include smooth & fast execution of commands, glitch & lag free gaming experience and multi-tasking capabilities.
But it is worth pointing out that infinix mobile has rolled out over 4 updates for the zero 5 between the launch time and now (April 2017).
They are also currently working on Orea update for the zero 5 and zero 5 pro. Infinix note 4 pro and its junior variant has already received this update.
Tecno mobile on the other hand hasn’t rolled out any update to their flagship nor announce working on Orea update for the device.
Verdict on Performance.
Yeah, they are both powered by a 2.6GHz Octa Core MediaTek Helio P25 processor, 6GB RAM, Android 7.0 Nougat with XOS 3.0 for zero 5 and HiOS 3.0 for phantom 8.
But Orea update and constant security & system patches for the zero 5 will means better performance on the long run.
I won’t rule on this. You have all the facts.
Both device again uses exactly the same rear dual camera. Sony 12MP + Samsung 13MP camera with tonnes of features built on top.
Shot from both phones are crisp and detailed.
However, zero 5 rear camera takes a bit better pictures in a low light environment.
Phantom 8 20MP front camera on the other hand takes a better shot in low light than zero 5 16MP front facing camera.
Pictures taken by their rear and front camera in a lighted environment are of same quality.
Battery, Connectivity & Color.
Infinix zero 5 is equipped with a large 4350 mAh battery capacity as against the 3500 mAh battery capacity of Tecno Phantom 8.
They both support dual sim, SD card up to 2TB, 4G network, USB Type C, OTG and Wi-Fi (hotspot and direct).
Phantom 8 is available in Champagne Gold, Galaxy Blue and Phantom Black.
Zero 5 is available in Bordeaux Red, Sandstone Black and Champagne Gold.
