Meta, the parent company of Instagram, is reportedly developing a new app to compete with Twitter, which could launch as early as next month.
The app, which has been referred to as “Project 92,” “P92,” and “Barcelona” in previous reports, is being tested with celebrities and influencers and is said to be decentralized.
Lia Haberman, a Substack writer who teaches about social and influencer marketing at UCLA, posted what appear to be the first images of the app on Twitter.
The app will reportedly allow users to log in with their Instagram account details and will operate based on Instagram’s existing guidelines.
It will also be compatible with other apps like Mastodon, allowing users to search across apps.
The app may offer an alternative for users unhappy with Elon Musk’s ownership of Twitter.
