Since the iPhone 12 Pro and its Max variant are 200 US Dollars and 300 US Dollars respectively more expensive than the regular iPhone 12, should you buy the Pro or Pro Max over the regular 12 and 12 mini?
Well, over the course of this write up, we will see if that move is worth making or not and why.
First, let’s talk about that price and make sure it stays at the back of your mind as you read through this article.
How Much is iPhone 12 Pro Max in Nigeria
The 12 Pro starts at 460,000 Naira for the 128GB storage while the 12 Pro Max starts at 500,000 Naira for the same storage capacity.
However, the regular 12 starts at 350,000 Naira for the base model with 64GB internal storage and the 128GB internal storage variant costs $80 more which brings its price to 390,000 Naira and you start wondering if you should go for the 12 Pro instead.
But then, at this point, you can just add $220 and go for the Pro Max instead.
But this decision will have to depend on whether the Pro and Pro Max has more things to offer you than the 12 mini and the regular 12. So, let’s find out about that.
The design of the 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max are the same as what we have already seen on the regular 12 and the 12 mini but they Pro versions edge the other duo a little bit in build quality and rear camera set up.
What do i mean by a little bit in build quality?
Well, even though all the new iPhones launched in 2020 comes with ceramic shield to further reinforce the strength and resistance of the device to scratch and shattering, have the same flat design across board and the same buttons and port everywhere, there are still few noticeable things.
For example, the side frame on the regular 12 and 12 mini are made out of aluminum while the same frame is made of stainless steel on the 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max.
Also, the speaker grills on the 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max are bigger than the regular 12 and 12 mini. This actually gives the Pro versions more base at the highest volume than the other two.
Turning to the rear side, there is one more camera on the Pro variants and little cut out for Lidar sensor.
While the 12 Pro is of the same size as the regular 12, the 12 Pro Max has a larger dimension.
On the right-hand side, is the power button at the top and below it is the 5G receiver cut out. On the left-hand side is the ring/silent switch, volume up and down buttons and the sim card tray port.
Though the 12 Pro has the same display size and quality as the smaller duo, the 12 Pro Max takes further.
While the 12 Pro is a 6.1-inches display with 1170 x 2532 pixels resolution, the 12 Pro Max is a 6.7-inches display with 1284 x 2778 pixels resolution.
Other than that, everything else as regard display quality is the same as the other iPhones that was announced by Apple in 2020.
The Face ID still works great and fine and is still being housed in the big notch which most android smartphones have moved on from. The bezels across the device has gotten more thinner though.
Just like on the smaller 2020 iPhones, the 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max has their body being protected by ceramic shield which makes it harder for them to break or scratch.
They are powered by the A14 bionic processor which is the first 5nm chip in any smartphone and comes with a support for 5G technology.
It has 6-cores central processing unit, 4-cores graphics processing unit and uses 6GB of RAM instead of the 4GB that was seen on the regular 12 and the 12 mini.
You have the internal storage options of 128GB as the base, 256GB and 512GB as the highest and there is no slot for you to expand the memory.
The 12 Pro has the same main and ultra wide camera as the regular 12 and the mini but with an additional 12MP 2x telephoto lens to take zoom pictures.
This would have been a great addition but apart from the shot taken in good light condition but in low light or in the night, the shot aren’t that great and the phone will automatically switched itself to the main camera during this situation.
So, if the only reason you want to spend some extra bucks for the 12 Pro is because of this additional camera sensor, you probably should just stick with the regular 12.
The 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max comes with a Lidar scanner; a depth sensor which the company first introduced with the iPad Pro. Basically, it allows you to take good pictures in the night or in low light because of its 6 times faster auto focus and this also translate to great portrait shot in the night.
Lidar also has a very great AR (Augmented Reality) integration which makes playing AR games on the 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max delivers great experience.
The telephoto lens on the 12 pro max can also do 2.5x optical zoom while its main uses sensor shift image stabilization for auto-focus.
You can also shoot 4K Dolby vision video at 60 frame per second and 1080p video up to 240 fps (frame per second). The front facing camera is another 12MP lens but with f/2.2 aperture and 23mm focal length.
While the battery on the 12 Pro is the same as the 2815 mAh on the regular 12, the 12 pro max again took things a little bit further with its 3687mAh battery capacity.
This makes it easier for you to use the device comfortably for a day without having to plug it once except you are an extreme heavy user.
Yes, there is also support for MagSafe which is a magnetic based technology which allows you to charge the device wirelessly and you can also attach your Apple card to it to make payment.
The iPhone 12 Pro doesn’t seem like a wise buy in my own opinion. Almost everything is the same as what you will get on the regular 12 but for lesser amount.
Also, you should only buy the 12 Pro Max if you want bigger screen size and better display resolution /quality, bigger battery, and a little bit better speaker on the highest volume.
It shouldn’t be because you think it has a better camera system than the rest because of the extra telephoto lens because that it is not. The picture quality is about the same thing on all the iPhone that apple announced in 2020.
So, what do you think guys? Which one are you going for? The 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro or 12 Pro Max? Let me know in the comment.
