The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has raised concerns over the security of the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, and his Vice, Kashim Shettima, ahead of their inauguration on May 29, 2023.
In a statement released on Friday, MURIC’s Executive Director, Prof.
Ishaq Akintola, called for increased security measures for the duo due to purported rising security threats and treasonable utterances from the opposition camp, which he said bordered on desperation.
According to Akintola, the security agencies need to double the guards for Tinubu and Shettima, as nothing must happen to them.
He also reminded those plotting to truncate the presidential inauguration of the dire consequences of their actions.
The statement from MURIC has sparked reactions from different quarters, with some commending the group for its timely intervention, while others faulted the call for increased security, saying it could create more tension and fear among citizens.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police Force has assured Nigerians of their readiness to ensure a peaceful transition of power come May 29, 2023.
The police said that the force has put in place adequate security measures to ensure the safety of all citizens, including the President-elect and his Vice.
They also warned those planning to cause trouble during the inauguration to desist from such acts, as the police would not hesitate to deal decisively with anyone found wanting.
