Abuja, Nigeria — The House of Representatives has issued a public apology to Nigerian students and families impacted by a technical fault during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

According to reports, the apology was delivered during a press conference at the National Assembly by Hon. Oforji Oboku, Chairman of the House Committee on Basic Education. He acknowledged the significant distress caused by the disruption and affirmed that corrective actions are underway.

“We sincerely apologise on behalf of the examination body (JAMB) to all Nigerians,” said Oboku, as he addressed journalists at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja.

The apology comes in the wake of reports indicating a widespread failure of candidates due to a system malfunction attributed to JAMB. The Board’s Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, was recognised for his transparency in accepting responsibility and apologising publicly to candidates, parents, and the nation.

The House Committee pledged its commitment to working with JAMB to improve the examination process and uphold the credibility of national assessments across all six geo-political zones.

Additionally, the committee has called for an independent probe into the technical issues to ensure accountability and prevent future disruptions in the country’s tertiary entrance examinations.
