Harry Kane celebrated his 100th England cap in style, scoring twice in a 2-0 victory over Finland in the Nations League at Wembley.
Kane becomes only the 10th player to reach a century of appearances for England, joining legends like David Beckham and Bobby Moore.
The England captain also became only the third player in history to score during his 100th appearance.
Already England’s all-time leading scorer with 68 goals, Kane has set his sights on Peter Shilton’s remarkable 125 caps and Wayne Rooney’s 120 outfield appearances.
The 31-year-old opened the scoring in the second half with a powerful strike off the crossbar following a pass from Trent Alexander-Arnold, and then scored the second with a composed finish from a Noni Madueke cross.
England’s interim manager, Lee Carsley also earned his second win in as many games, having previously beaten Ireland.
Carsley’s more attacking style is in contrast to Southgate’s approach, and his early success has impressed the Football Association.
He also handed a debut to Lille midfielder Angel Gomes and saw a strong performance from Chelsea‘s Noni Madueke.
Kane’s achievements were celebrated with a gold cap presented by former England stars Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole before the game and Kane received a heartfelt standing ovation as he was substituted.
