Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne will be undergoing surgery for his hamstring injury, according to manager Pep Guardiola.

As a result, de Bruyne is expected to be out of action for the next three to four months of the season.

The 32-year-old sustained the injury during City’s opening win against Burnley and had previously been injured during the Champions League final in June.

Guardiola described the injury as serious and stated that a decision on surgery will be made in the coming days.

De Bruyne had already missed all of City’s pre-season matches and only made a second-half appearance in the Community Shield defeat to Arsenal.

Despite the setback, de Bruyne had an impressive season last year, scoring 10 goals and providing 31 assists as City won the Champions League, Premier League, and FA Cup.
