A passenger on an Ibom Air flight violently assaulted crew members and airport security at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed Airport, leading to her detention in Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison — www.naijnaira.com reports.
Comfort Emmanson, flying from Uyo to Lagos, refused to switch off her phone before takeoff, causing tension on board, according to Vanguard.
The airline explained that despite the pilot’s announcement, Emmanson only switched off her phone after a fellow passenger intervened, which triggered a verbal outburst.
After landing, she confronted the purser, physically assaulted her by stepping on her, tearing off her wig, and slapping her repeatedly.
Other crew members trying to intervene were also attacked.
She attempted to grab a fire extinguisher to use as a weapon, risking the safety of the aircraft.
Airport security was alerted, but she resisted arrest, attacking both Ibom Air and FAAN security personnel.
The situation escalated until she was forcibly removed and handed over to the police for investigation.
Ibom Air has banned Emmanson from flying with the airline and reported the incident to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority.
Mr. Tunde Moshood, spokesperson for the Minister of Aviation, stated, “The unruly passenger on Uyo-Lagos bound Ibom Air has been charged to court and is now cooling off in Kirikiri.”
Comfort Emmanson now faces legal consequences after disrupting not just a flight, but airport security procedures and passenger safety.
