As Kai Havertz’s £65m transfer to Arsenal nears completion, leaked images of him in an Arsenal shirt have already surfaced.
The 24-year-old German forward is set to become Mikel Arteta’s first signing of the summer after Arsenal agreed to the deal with Chelsea.
Havertz finished as Chelsea’s top scorer last season and is scheduled to undergo his medical overseas this weekend.
It has been leaked that Havertz will wear number 29 for the Gunners, a number he has worn since breaking into Bayer Leverkusen’s first team.
Havertz explained that he chose the number because his brother always used it when they played FIFA or Pro Evolution Soccer together.
Explaining the reason behind his shirt number, back in 2021, Havertz told The Athletic: “When I was young I always used to play FIFA or Pro Evolution Soccer with my brother. We always made ourselves in the game. I had No 10, golden shoes and things like that. My brother always put No 29 on his shirt.
“When I came to the professional game and Leverkusen asked me what number I wanted to have, I asked them which numbers were free. When they said 29, I said I’d take it because of my brother. Sometimes it’s lucky for me, sometimes not, but I like the number and now I think everybody knows me for it.”
