US basketball star LeBron James made history on Saturday as he became the first NBA player to reach the milestone of 40,000 career points.
This remarkable achievement comes in his 21st NBA season, making him the oldest active player in the league. During a home game against the Denver Nuggets, James contributed nine points to the Los Angeles Lakers’ score.
He scored five points in the first quarter and then swiftly followed with a layup just 14 seconds into the second quarter.
Notably, he also made a left-handed layup with 10 minutes and 39 seconds remaining in the second quarter.
While James acknowledged the significance of this milestone, he humbly stated that he does not consider it to be the greatest accomplishment of his career.
However, he still finds it meaningful, recognizing that no other player has achieved this feat.
James expressed his gratitude, saying, “Is it one of the top things I’ve done in my career? No. Does it mean something? Of course. Why wouldn’t it?”
Born and raised in Akron, Ohio, James entered the NBA as a teenager and has since become one of the most iconic figures in basketball.
Throughout his career, he has won four championships with three different teams and has been awarded four MVP titles and four Finals MVP titles.
As for his future, James currently has a player-option for the 2024-25 NBA season, which allows him to decide whether to remain with the Lakers for another year or explore other opportunities as an unrestricted free agent.
