Liverpool Football Club is actively searching for a replacement for current manager Jurgen Klopp ahead of the next season. Despite considering several managers, the club has faced challenges in securing their top targets.

Initially, Xabi Alonso was believed to be the frontrunner for the job, but he has since committed his future to Bayer Leverkusen, distancing himself from the Liverpool links.

In recent weeks, Ruben Amorim, the Sporting boss, has been heavily linked with the Anfield hot seat. However, according to David Ornstein, a reliable source, it seems “unlikely” that Amorim will move to Liverpool, as West Ham has now entered the race for his services.

As per Anfield Watch, Liverpool has held talks with Paulo Fonseca, the current manager of Lille.

Informal discussions regarding the managerial role took place earlier in the season. The 51-year-old Portuguese manager is admired by those at the club, and it remains to be seen if Liverpool will formalize their interest.

Compared to other names linked with Liverpool, Fonseca brings a wealth of experience, having managed over 670 games in his coaching career. He has previously managed Roma, Shakhtar Donetsk, and Porto.

Fonseca has also done an impressive job with Lille this season, guiding the club to fourth place in Ligue 1 and the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa Conference League.

In an interview with the BBC, Fonseca expressed his attraction to managing in the Premier League, acknowledging the quality of coaches, teams, and players.

However, he also emphasized his contentment in France, feeling respected in his current position.

Liverpool’s interest in Fonseca remains to be formalized, but he is certainly a candidate to watch in the coming weeks as the club continues its search for Klopp’s replacement.
