Manchester City midfielder Rodri is at risk of missing the remainder of the season due to an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.

Reports emerging from Spain on Monday confirmed that the 28-year-old sustained an injury during the club’s recent 2-2 draw against Arsenal in the Premier League.

The midfielder limped off the field, clutching his right knee, raising immediate concerns regarding the severity of the injury.

Tests on Monday confirmed the ACL tear, which would be a devastating blow to both Manchester City and Spain.

Rodri’s absence would be a significant setback for City’s quest to secure a fifth consecutive Premier League title and their hopes of reclaiming the Champions League trophy.

The former Atletico Madrid player has been instrumental for both club and country, recently helping City to their latest league title and Spain to victory at Euro 2024.

His performances this year have earned him recognition as a potential Ballon d’Or contender.

City manager Pep Guardiola praised Rodri after the Arsenal match, saying,

“Rodri is strong. He leaves the pitch because he felt something, otherwise Rodri stays there. He’s the best holding midfielder in the world, and I would love for him to win the Ballon d’Or.”
