Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want for Christmas is You’ breaks Spotify record

Mariah Carey’s 1994 holiday classic “All I Want for Christmas is You” has earned its place at the top of streaming records, thanks to 21.273 million spots on Spotify in a single day on December 24th.

Before that, Adele had held the record for most streams in a 24-hour period with her song “Someone Like You” with 19.747 million spins.

Following behind Carey’s festive jam are SZA’s new song “Kill Bill” and Wham!’s appropriately ballad “Last Christmas,” both featured in the top three list of the popular music streaming platform that week.

The feel-good carol was originally released 26 years ago and just recently reached the number one spot in the Hot 100 and UK Official Chart.

While Mariah insists she came up with it as a child, co-writer Walter Afansieff claims her story is nothing more than an embellished “tall tale.”
