Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku suffered a knee injury during a friendly match against Borussia Dortmund.

The French international, who recently joined Chelsea in a £53 million transfer from RB Leipzig, was substituted after 22 minutes following a challenge from Mats Hummels.

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino provided an update on Nkunku’s injury, stating that the doctors are assessing the situation and hoping it is not a major issue.

Nkunku has been impressive in pre-season matches, scoring goals against Wrexham, Brighton, and Fulham.

However, his availability for Chelsea’s opening Premier League match against Liverpool on August 13 is uncertain.

Pochettino did not blame the playing surface for the injury, attributing it to bad luck.
