Mbappe Scores as Real Madrid Draw 1-1 with Atletico in Intense Madrid Derby

Kylian Mbappe scored in the second half to help Real Madrid earn a 1-1 draw against Atletico Madrid in a tense La Liga derby on Sunday.

Atletico took the lead in the first half with a controversial penalty from Julian Alvarez, awarded after Aurelien Tchouameni fouled Samuel Lino in the box.

Despite protests from Real Madrid, who felt the decision was harsh, Alvarez calmly converted a Panenka.

Real Madrid, missing key defenders, struggled a lot in the first half but came alive after the break.

Mbappe leveled the score early in the second half, pouncing on a rebound after his teammate Jude Bellingham’s shot was blocked.

Madrid dominated possession and created numerous chances, with Bellingham hitting the crossbar and forcing Atletico goalkeeper Jan Oblak into several saves.

Although Real Madrid’s coach Carlo Ancelotti believed his team deserved more from the match, he expressed satisfaction with their performance, saying they had control in the second half.

Real Madrid remain top of La Liga with 49 points, one point ahead of Atletico, while Barcelona sits third with 45 points.
