There is a claim circulating on social media that the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) in Abuja has ordered the arrest of Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), over deleted election results.
The post, dated Friday, June 23, 2023, reads:
“BREAKING!! Court ordered the arrest of INEC chairman for deleting Results on the BVAS.”
However, fact-checking organization Africa Check has found no evidence to support this claim.
While there are reports of a witness alleging that INEC deliberately deleted presidential election results, there is no credible media platform reporting on the court ordering the arrest of Prof. Yakubu.
Therefore, the claim of his arrest is unfounded and false.
